I had my fashion show cherry popped this year.
AND IT WAS THE BEST THING EVEEEERRR!!
I'd like to make a shout out to Malaysia's Hottest Bloggers for giving my this opportunity. So grateful! For the third year in a row, Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (RTW) returned to Pavilion and I finally got a place in the invite list. Who else to bring along but Sue, my partner in crime. Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear was conceptualised in 2013 as a platform for Malaysian designers to showcase their Ready to Wear Collections and ultimately highlight the strengths and creativity of Malaysia's Fashion industry to the world. This year, it was held from August 12 - 16th with more than 80 designers showcasing their never-seen-before Runway Collections over the span of 5 days. Arriving to Pavilion itself, you could tell that fashion was in the air. Everyone was dressed to their best! Everywhere I walked, I had to resist the urge of ninja-ing a picture of someone. So many familiar faces as well! Everyone was a little late due to a heavy rain earlier in the day that caused a massive flood. While waiting for our show, Sue and I got our hair and makeup done by the lovely team at the Buro 24/7 Malaysia Booth. A huge thank you for making me look up to par with everyone else that night. Sue got her make up and hair done as well while I...... ATE ICE CREAM! (so unglam right? people go to fashion week to ber-fashion, I go and eat ice cream)
but honestly, with Sue by my side, everything is alright :)
Sue Sien and I found our seats and waited for the show to start. The show started with Thomas Wee, an invited designer from Singapore. Thomas Wee has been designing for more than 35 years. He has represented Singapore in many international trade shows and is perhaps one of the few impressive ambassadors of local fashion. As explained by Thomas Wee: Here are a couple of his looks that stood out. Fun Fact: In 2011, Thomas Wee was inducted into the CNN Power List as one of the 30 people who have shaped modern Singapore. Fun Fact: Thomas Wee’s expertise in the field of tailoring has always set him apart, and while he no longer does the jackets that have become synonymous with his name, he is still a master craftsman at manipulating the tailleur. The evolution of the Thomas Wee style continues apace as the designer challenges himself with a new luxe that employs minimum seams to maximum effect so that silhouettes become the dramatic statement of the Thomas Wee aesthetic. By the way, while all attention was fixed on the runway, I noticed how many photographers there were. And they all had to squeeze into this small area to get the right shot.
Sue and I in between shows.
The next show was Alia B by Alia Bastamam.
Alia Bastamam brings a cool, comfortable and up-to-date culture into the glamorous idea of fashion. Her line drifts through a wanderlust composed of soft movements, luscious fabric, sophisticated sex appeal, sharp cuts and fine tailoring.
Alia has made it essential that her designs are enduring and never outdated. She is inspired by unequivocal beauty at first sight which she believes is what looks best on a woman.
“I only make clothes that I would wear.” –Alia Bastamam
Fun Fact: Alia Bastamam graduated from The Raffles Design School in Kl, Malaysia.
Fun Fact: Celebrities and socialites who have strutted in Alia’s creations include Fashion TV host Hofit Golan, Hollywood actress Serinda Swan, Malaysian actress Lisa Surihani, songstress Yuna, E! News Asia host Marion Counter, Miss Universe Malaysia 2013 Carey Ng, socialite Tengku Chanela Jamidah and Nabila Huda, the daughter of Malaysian rock god, Amy Search.
I absolutely LOVED Alia's line. Every time a new look would debut on the runway, Sue Sien and I would squirm at each other. I kept thinking to myself, there is no way that Alia Bastamam can outdo her clothes, and then another equally or more amazing piece comes out and I'm like "Okay lah, I'm sold! You're designing my wedding gown." It was a great way to end the night. Sue Sien and I left feeling starstruck at Alia's designs. Will definitely be looking out for her in the future. I want to express a big thank you again to Malaysia's Hottest Bloggers for this opportunity. It was such fun!
