Also read This: The Star Online, Astro's Malaysian Boy' music video a hit with locals. In conjunction with Merdeka and Malaysia Day, Astro has came up with Malaysian Boy,a local remake of Estelle's American Boy. (is this even legal?) The music video has since drawn 23,000 hits on YouTube. Am I the only one embarrassed by this? Cause it seems that everyone else likes it. Astro chief operating officer, Henry Tan says “We just thought it would be nice for the Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations to remind ourselves what makes us special, which is our unique diversity and harmony" Oh really? Copying an entire song makes us unique now? Do you even know the meaning unique? On why Astro chose the song, " Estelle's song was chosen because of its appeal and it was time we had a Malaysian version" Oh so that's what we do now? We copy and make a Malaysian version of everything we like aye? And then we rename it and call it our own? Genius. I pray that your parents don't disown you.
Really? Encouraging copying is fun? I'll wait for you kid to copy in her exams and then you tell me if copying is fun. How do I feel about this? Why the annoyance? Shouldn't I be at least a little proud at the fact that we're capable of producing mediocre MVs and talented artists? Because I know we can do better. In fact, we can do way waaaay better than copy an entire song! We're way better than that! Take for example Here In My Home that came out in 2008. Now this is something to be proud of! Astro, you took the easy way out! This video does not portray us, Malaysians, at all. Like Tan says, we're unique and there's no need to copy to prove it. Malaysians, we need to learn how to think for ourselves. Don't swallow everything shown on television. Don't follow something just because it seems cool. We need to start thinking. Thinking is the first step to a better country and a better us. Don't be minions no more. Love, Sabrina Labels: why this is embarassing 0 lovely comments ✿ |
